Q　What was your motivation for joining the program, and what about the program appeals to you?

What I want to research most is to analyze the mechanism of the complex black box which is human beings, and to reproduce it by engineering means. In particular, I would like to study the sharing and transmission of human senses and emotions such as joy, anger, sadness, and sorrow. HWIP is a program for researchers majoring in information, biological, and cognitive sciences, and I can learn the knowledge essential for fusion research. In addition, I applied for this program because I expect to advance my own research in a good direction by interacting with researchers in different fields and getting opinions and ideas born from others’ knowledge.

Q　What is your expertise and how do you want to develop it with the program?

As an undergraduate, I did research in image processing and kinematics. Since entering graduate school, I have been researching on human vision and telexistence. To analyze the human vision, biological knowledge is essential. In addition, psychology and information engineering such as image processing is also necessary to give people illusions. Through this program, my aim is to gain a deeper understanding of this kind of knowledge and to further develop fusion research with students from different fields.

Q　What are your future dreams and goals?

My dream・goal is to realize a research that shares and transmits human senses and emotions such as joy, anger, sadness, and sorrow. If such research can be achieved, I believe that we can create a greater and more convenient environment for humans. For example, what the robot is feeling can be transmitted to human who are controlling it in real-time or convey from one person to another by sharing emotions, such as joy, anger, sorrow, sadness. Then I think we can reduce misunderstandings and miscommunications around the world.
