What is ultimate empathy?

Q　What was your motivation for joining the program, and what about the program appeals to you?

My purpose of joining the program is to get to know other students who are also studying for the doctoral course at HWIP, and to gain perspectives that I do not have at present by doing research. I believe that this program provides me with stimulation that I cannot get only in my laboratory.

Q　What is your expertise and how do you want to develop it with the program?

Currently, I am working on electrical stimulation of human sensory presentation, especially vestibular sensation. My core interests are individual differences and empathy. Empathy is a difficult thing. For one thing, we do not share exactly the same situation with others, which makes it even more difficult. And even if we can control the stimuli and internal conditions, there are many hurdles because the sensory organs are different and there are absolute individual differences in response to them. Even if I cannot understand each other, I want to understand each other. I look forward to deepening this perspective in the program.

Q　What are your future dreams and goals?

For me, there is something missing when I do for human beings. I would like my research to be useful not only for the future of mankind, of course, but also for the emergence of intelligent beings that are more intelligent than human beings.
