The Quest for “Eternal (Eien-narumono)”

Q What was your motivation for joining the program, and what about the program appeals to you?

I joined this program because I wanted an opportunity to conduct research more freely and independently, without being restricted by the laboratory I belong to. In addition, this program allows me to create an environment in which I can concentrate on my research from a financial standpoint as well.
The appeal of this program is that we have the opportunity to engage with people of the same age from different research field and that we can conduct the research we want to do as long as it is an intensive interdisciplinary study. Moreover, we can improve the presentation skills because we have a lot of opportunities to share our research with people from different research field.

Q What is your expertise and who do you want to develop it with the program?

My expertise is the research of using teleoperated social robot. Especially, my research question was how multiple social robots can collaborate effectively for robot influence. In addition, I collected the data of multiple robots’ behavior since it is difficult to teleoperated multiple robots simultaneously and I aimed to create a system for autonomous robots. I think that if I can get various opinions on my research from people in Information Science and Technology and Frontier Biosciences, I will be able to improve my research.

Q What are your future dreams and goals?

What is “eternal (Eien-narumono).”
“Eternal” is the phrase engraved on a stone monument in my graduated high school. I think people will die someday and will be gone, but I believe that something of that person will remain forever in the things the person involved. I will create a system that make people inherit eternal to robot and I hope to answer the question of what is “eternal.”
