Hey guys, glad to see the project is going forward! The main reason why we ask you to discuss on Slack is mainly for transparency. If discussions are on Slack, other students (not just this year, next year and on) can also see how it actually went. For example, you can see what the other group are doing/thinking in #outreach_2018_expo_jp
So it’s best if you guys try to keep records as much as you can.
Of course you can have offline meeting too. It would be probably better when you want to have long discussions, but would be also nice if you can upload minutes from such meeting on Slack 😉

Hi Minbo, thanks for update, but I’m afraid we cannot book any place at this stage because we still don’t know what you guys are gonna do. We have to talk with Expo guys about what/where/when/how we want to do. We cannot just say like “Hey, we want to book a place on August 25th, is it ok? but we don’t know what we are gonna do”. They are very positive and supportive, but we still have to respect their business. So we have to show them some concrete plan about what we would do.

Plus, the date might be a bit too close (only 1 month from now). CNN cafe is business-wise separate from EXPO (Mitsui real estate), which makes things a bit more complicated. That’s why I said we have to inform then well in advance.

I’m sorry to bother you, however, from Sep to Dec. I won’t be here(for internship),that’s why I want to finish it by the end of Aug. The biggest issue for our outreach is how to find the target audiences who could understand English, if we could solve this problem in advance, anywhere in Expo city should be OK, like the outside.:thinking_face:

Hi Minbo, bothering us is not a problem at all. We’re just concerning about them (EXPO, CNN cafe). You need to remember when you do anything with them, you’re representing Osaka University. So you have to act properly, so we won’t give any bad impression as delegates of osaka-u….
I do understand why you want to do this early, but we have to plan carefully. And I don’t think we have to worry too much about the audience. There must be a way to do outside the cafe. without worrying too much about english.
Probably there are 3 ways to go forward
– Hold an event before the end of August
– After December
– Or, during September and December
If the second option, there’ll be a plenty of time. you guys can discuss over emails/skype/slack/etc while Minbo is in the US
Even if the third option, you guys could plan in the coming month, then Minbo can join remotely if need be.
Either way, i guesss I’ll try to commit more. Can you let me know if you have a fixed date for offline meeting please? Thanks.

This is an event co-organized by Osaka U and Expo city. on Nov 17th, which would match with a suggested date for our outreach. A good thing is, we don’t need to worry about attracting audience, there’ll be a bunch of them, from young to old, coming to the event. And we can do our outreach as one of the booths

Of course we can decide when we meet offline, but if we go for that option, I guess Hosoda san and I will have to involve more as it is an official event by Osaka U, so have to match a couple of ‘standards’ and quality has to be assured…
