Interview

Sorry, this entry is only available in 日本語.

The program keeps me so busy and interested, there is never enough time in the day.

Q: What were your motivations for joining the program?

This program was recommended to me by my undergraduate supervising professor. When I looked at the curriculum, I felt I could design and carry out my own projects. I applied for the program because I felt that it would help me become the kind of person who can discover new things.

Q: What are your future dreams and goals?

My goal is to develop a better understanding of symbiotic mechanisms. My dream is to create an organism that has a new biological function.

Q: What are your impressions and thoughts about the program?

The program is very substantial in its scope. I was surprised at the variety of fields that the other program members come from. It is a stimulating environment where everyone’s motivation is high, and we never tire of the discussions we have with one another. In our discussions, we are always talking about the next new project we want to undertake. There is so much to do, it seems there is never enough time to do it all. Sometimes I wish there were two of me!

Discussions, especially with international students, have been a very novel experience. Our conversations are so interesting because ideas that would have otherwise not occurred to me come forward, promoting even more discussion. On the other hand, I am concerned that I may not have enough time to pursue my own research as I spend so much time with others that are not in my field.
