Potentialities of Interdisciplinary Studies

Q　What was your motivation for joining the program, and what about the program appeals to you?

I participate in this program in order to make friends, who can join me in free discussions on interdisciplinary research topics. I attended the academic conferences and workshops several times, where I got the opportunity to discuss various topics including my research with people from multiple backgrounds, and I learned a lot from their viewpoints. Since HWIP’s students come from three different graduate schools, I believe that we can have rich discussions on interdisciplinary research topics on a daily basis.

Q　What is your expertise and who do you want to develop it with the program?

When I was in the school of engineering science, I learned about the control method of robot consisting mainly of actuators and sensors. Then, after I entered the research laboratory, I am studying on how to accomplish complicated tasks using an anthropomorphic hand efficiently. It is possible to create hardware which has the same kinematics model as human beings, however, we cannot confirm how to control the dexterity of the hand like a human being. I would like to develop the dexterous and robust control methods by considering the flexibility of human and the relationship between brain and hands from the viewpoint of biological and cognitive science.

Q　What are your future dreams and goals?

I would like to work on interdisciplinary studies such as developing robots leveraging human function and complementing/expanding human function as a robotics researcher.
Furthermore, I look forward to utilizing the research findings for addressing social issues.
