Enriching one another’s specialist fields

Q　What was your motivation for joining the program, and what about the program appeals to you?

What appealed to me was the opportunity for close interaction with students in other academic fields. I hope to absorb the ideas about my own field, neuroscience, that are generated when someone from a completely different field looks at it. I would like to build relationships in which we can enrich one another’s research.

Q　What is your expertise and who do you want to develop it with the program?

I am conducting research on visual information processing in the brain. Our brains use visual information collected by the retinae in our eyes to identify the features of objects and acquire information on what is located where. I want to use information processing theories to develop a more effective, efficient method of analyzing the way our brains process the diverse visual features of a natural landscape.

Q　What are your future dreams and goals?

In the future, I would like to be involved in research that applies insights from brain science to the field of engineering. I would especially like to use visual information processing to develop sensory BMI technologies. I hope that direct input/output of visual information and a variety of other sensory information to/from the brain will one day enable seamless exchange of information among humans and between humans and machines.
