Imoto, Soichiro

Graduate School of Information Science and Technology Computer Science Major

Engineering Science, Osaka University

I want to forge a pathway toward my dreams.

Q What was your motivation for joining the program, and what about the program appeals to you?

Through interaction with researchers from other fields such as bioscience and cognitive science, I hope to develop rich creativity and a flexible approach unfettered by pre-existing methods. I would also like to apply multifaceted approaches to interdisciplinary research linking information science with other fields, and to take this research in new directions.

Q What is your expertise and who do you want to develop it with the program?

I specialize in distributed algorithms, which are algorithms used in distributed systems that involve multiple computers being linked and working cooperatively. There are many things around us which could be called distributed systems. Even the human brain has something in common with distributed systems. I will use my knowledge of this field to provide researchers with better ideas, approaches, and algorithms. I am hoping to be able to generate completely new algorithms using knowledge derived from other fields as well.

Q What are your future dreams and goals?

I want to make a major contribution to the world in the fields of computer science and interdisciplinary research bringing computer science together with other fields. Eventually I want to launch my own company for research and development of systems and products that incorporate research findings from multiple fields; ones that take the world by storm and make Japan proud.
