Q What was your motivation for joining the program, and what about the program appeals to you?

I applied because I wanted to interact with people from other fields and acquire a broad range of insights. The opportunity for this kind of interaction is the greatest attraction of the program. Even for people like me who usually do basic research in areas quite removed from practical application, there are opportunities to pursue a variety projects that may lead in some way to applied outcomes.

Q What is your expertise and who do you want to develop it with the program?

I am now enrolled in the Graduate School of Frontier Biosciences, but I did my undergraduate degree in the Department of Physics in the School of Science. My research specialization is optical physics, which involves using light to identify the properties of various materials and their origins. I am thinking of using my time in this program to do something like, for example, applying the physical properties of sound in order to develop a sound-proofing device.

Q What are your future dreams and goals?

I want to have confidence in myself;
To be true to my own interests;
To carry my ideas through to fruition;
To sing in a loud voice without worrying whether other people can hear my voice or not, anytime, anywhere!
