Interview

Sorry, this entry is only available in 日本語.

We are free to organize what we want to do, and participate in whatever we choose

Q: What was your motivation for joining the program?

I was interested in interdisciplinary research combining bioscience, information science, and cognitive science, and thought I would benefit greatly from interaction with people working in other fields. Another motivation to apply was the quality of both the educational environment and the financial support offered.

Q: What are your future dreams and goals?

I want to model the behavior of users of online services and apply my models to technologies in areas such as information recommendation and marketing. I think that such models will help us understand the mechanisms of online social behavior.

Q: What about the program appeals to you?

Basically, I like the freedom. Students can take the lead in organizing activities and research projects. In particular, we do everything from planning to publicity, promotion, scheduling and budgets for student activities. This is valuable experience that we couldn’t get from research alone.
The program itself also offers us many opportunities, such as internships, external research, and special seminars. We can choose which activities we want to participate in.
We are free to organize what we want to do, and participate in whatever we choose. I think this kind of freedom is the most attractive feature of the program.
