I joined the program thinking: If I go ahead with doctoral studies, I want to try a lot of different things.
Q What was your motivation for joining the program, and what about the program appeals to you?
When I consulted with professors about my plans to pursue a doctoral degree, they recommended HWIP. I wanted to do a lot of different things in my doctoral studies, and found that this program had many opportunities not offered in regular programs, so I decided to apply. What appeals to me is the possibility of engaging with many types of people and challenging myself in many ways. I also like the way the program respects student initiative.
Q What is your expertise and who do you want to develop it with the program?
My research involves building theories for the purpose of efficient operation of large-scale networks such as the internet. I hope that participation in HWIP will help me understand what the issues are in real-life society and other fields of research, and thereby enrich the process of theory-building. I also want to use the program to acquire the capacity to think about things from different perspectives, which will enable me to come up with innovative new theories.
Q What are your future dreams and goals?
I want to create a society that can be enjoyed by both myself and others. I want to earn my place in history.
